The Tower Machine
The main idea behind the development of this excellent
machine simply put is... SAVINGS. During our years in
the business, we have met applications that where big
with very big parts, shallow parts (Signs or similar ),
or where very deep parts (SPA) are required, but due to
the nature of the parts there is no need for dual heaters
or dual platens. The Customer wants the quality finish,
controls and sophistication of a ZMD machine but at an
extremely lower cost. This situation lead to the development
of an unusual machine, the Tower Machine.
The basic idea behind the Tower machine is the saving of the top platen (plug assist) and bottom heater platen. Now, it is available to mount on the same posts the bottom platen (to carry the mold) and movable of top heater platen (up and down). The other characteristics of the Tower Machine are as follows:
- Sheet carriage is normally stationary (fixed).
- The top heaters platen will move on linear bearings towards
the plastic sheet carriage. When the plastic reaches the
desired heating temperature, the heaters platen can be
retrieved back to the initial position, the mold will
seal the plastic and provide the vacuum cycle. The vacuum,
air eject etc. will be applied automatically while. The
whole process will be controlled by a microprocessor.
- Furthermore (and this is the big advantage of the tower
machine), the Heating Timer can be assigned to stay over
the plastic for a longer time during the vacuum process.
The microprocessor will keep the heaters on top of the
sheet during the vacuum process itself. This feature enables
pick up of any complicated details of the mold, for excellent
product definition. The heater will move back automatically
to the initial position, at exact timing by the microprocessor.
- After the forming process is completed, the mold with
the formed part will travel down, the cooling cycle will
start and the part will be released from the mold, all
controlled by the microprocessor.
- The foot print of the machine is less than half the size of similar standard machines. There is no limitation on the size of machine ZMD can manufacture.
